E1S-KE: mixed regulation for maximum service continuity

Operational reliability through combined compound and AVR regulation

In many traditional applications, where simplicity, robustness, and service continuity remain fundamental values, the choice of voltage regulation system makes all the difference. The E1S KE series by Linz Electric was developed precisely to meet these needs, combining two proven technologies in a single solution: compound regulation and electronic AVR control.

The result is a 2 pole, three phase, brushed alternator capable of ensuring voltage stability, excellent transient performance, and a superior level of reliability, even under demanding operating conditions.

The logic behind KE mixed regulation

The KE system is based on the combined use of a dedicated compound and an electronic voltage regulator. This architecture overcomes the typical limitations of purely compound or purely electronic regulation systems.

During load connection, the compound acts immediately, supporting voltage during the fastest transients, such as the starting of asynchronous motors. The electronic AVR comes into operation with a deliberately delayed response, correcting the voltage once the critical phase has passed. This approach ensures a progressive, stable, and controlled response.

An additional advantage is functional redundancy. The generator can operate either with compound regulation alone or with electronic regulation alone, significantly increasing overall machine reliability in the event of a malfunction in one of the two systems.

Solid transient and starting performance

The E1S KE series stands out for its high capability in handling dynamic loads. The steady state short circuit current exceeds three times the rated current, ensuring an effective response under critical conditions.

When starting asynchronous motors, it is generally possible to start 1 HP for each kVA of the generator, with limited and predictable voltage dips. Transient behavior is particularly appreciated in applications characterized by frequent high inrush currents or intermittent loads.

Voltage stability and power quality

Voltage accuracy is ±5% from no load to full load when operating with compound regulation only, and ±1% with AVR, with cosφ 0.8 and constant rotational speed.

The low harmonic distortion of the waveform, below 5%, allows the supply of any type of load, including non linear loads, without compromising the quality of the delivered power.

Standard voltages include star delta connections at 230/400 V at 50 Hz and 277/480 V at 60 Hz, with the possibility of customized voltages on request.

Operational flexibility and robust construction

The series accepts a 10% overload for one hour every six hours, while short term overloads can reach very high values. Single phase operation on the reinforced phase is also possible, with clearly defined power percentages depending on the model and connection type.

These features make E1S KE alternators particularly suitable for generator sets used in industrial, agricultural, and professional applications, where the machine is required to operate continuously, reliably, and predictably, without unexpected behavior.

A practical solution based on real world experience

The E1S KE series represents a pragmatic approach to voltage regulation. No unnecessary complexity, but proven technical solutions intelligently integrated. It is the ideal choice for those looking for an alternator that combines mechanical robustness, electrical stability, and service continuity, in line with the Linz Electric tradition.
